Warrior Nation

Sir, I’m no victim; I’m a volunteer.
My folks are proud of who I am.
My grandpa stormed ashore at Normandy;
My daddy fought in Viet Nam.

Great granddad shipped to the coast of France
In a war that was meant to end all wars.
Hit with mustard gas in the Argonne wood
He stopped the Kaiser’s mighty force.

Stonewall held the line on Manassas Plain;
My great, great grandpa by his side.
Virginians stood fast and fought for their homes;
Six hundred thousand soldiers died.

When the British burned our nation’s capitol,
In the third year of the War of 1812.
Our family rushed to the country’s defense
With no concern for themselves.

When first my family reached Virginia’s shore
The men folk felt duty bound.
They nearly froze to death at Valley Forge
And beat Cornwallis at Yorktown.

We’re a warrior nation but we pray for peace;
We mean no other country ill.
Founded by Puritans and pacifists
We guard their sacred vision still.

Victims? – No, only volunteers
Ready to answer every call.
Sons and daughters? – Yes, but full adults
Defending Liberty and Justice for us all.
